Television Awards 2015: Spectacular but lacking highlights

Although the scale of the organization was larger and more spectacular performances were invested, this year's HTV Awards ceremony did not create as strong an impression as previous years.

On the evening of April 4, the Ho Chi Minh City Television Awards Ceremony was held at the Hoa Binh Theater, Ho Chi Minh City. Like previous seasons, this playground always attracts the attention of artists across the country. Winning the "Most Favorite Actor" category, Luong The Thanh choked up as he shared and sent his gratitude to his colleagues and family. In his final words, he unexpectedly said "I love you" to actress Thuy Diem right on stage. Meanwhile, Tran Thanh also brought his mother up on stage to receive the award with him. The audience also applauded when Le Phuong led her son - the most important man in her life - up on stage to receive the award.

As every year, the smiles and tears of the artists when their names were announced to receive awards were the highlights, creating emotions for a program. However, the results of the categories did not bring any surprises - the element considered the most attractive of an awards ceremony.

As a leading model in the Vietnamese fashion industry and having a large fan base thanks to her work in the film industry, Thanh Hang easily defeated her two "juniors" Hoang Thuy and Trang Khieu to win the "Most Favorite Model" award with an overwhelming number of votes, accounting for 75.18%. Meanwhile, Tran Thanh also held a very high percentage of votes of 86.23% - not beyond the audience's expectations. Vu Cat Tuong, a familiar name in the 2014 music awards, was also the winner of the "Most Favorite Musician" category with 46.58% of the votes.

For the remaining categories, the audience could easily guess the winner's name. With overwhelming votes, Noo Phuoc Thinh and Dong Nhi took turns receiving the "Most Favorite Male and Female Singer" awards amid the excitement and endless cheers of fans in the stands. In 2014, this pair of close friends "swept" most of the most prestigious awards at the awards ceremonies. The male singer of "Waiting for the Rain to Stop" shared that this award was like a dream come true after more than 3 years of working without daring to neglect to serve the audience. Besides the Most Favorite Male Singer award, Noo also achieved a "double" when he and his team won the "Most Favorite Music Video" award with "Wipe Away Tears".

Along with Dong Nhi and Noo Phuoc Thinh, Truong Giang is also one of the artists honored for their positive contributions to the television industry in 2014, specifically the programs Thank God, You're Here! and Comedian Reunion.

The fierce competition is shown in the close votes between the nominees only in the awards "Most Favorite Female TV Host" and "Most Favorite Music Video".

In terms of content, this year's program did not bring many highlights. Last year, with the theme "Open", viewers could easily feel the youthfulness and a vibrant, joyful spirit through the performances. This year, with the theme "Golden Night", the program wanted to honor golden talents from many fields. But the performances only stopped at the level of beauty and sophistication, not connecting with the general theme. Compared to the melancholy duet of Le Hieu - Van Mai Huong or the rap introducing the categories of Xuan Lan last year, the performances of Ngan Khanh, the trio of musicians Pham Toan Thang, Cat Tuong and Do Hieu or My Linh... did not bring any surprises. The performance of the fashion collection "Light of the Night" was also commented to be not compatible with the vibrant dance music performance of "manager" Thu Minh.

Runner-up Truong Thi May appeared hesitant and awkward when she went on stage to present the award. Meanwhile, the long and uncoordinated exchange between Nguyen Hai Phong and Kim Tuyen showed poor preparation. The male musician and the beautiful actress kept pushing each other to read the winner's name, even though MC Binh Minh had gently reminded them. The remaining award presentations lacked the juggling between the guests, making the pace of the awards ceremony become monotonous.
