Mouth ulcers occur year round in children. This causes pain to the child and significantly affects care and feeding.

In folklore, mouth ulcers are often called canker sores, which means that the body is hot, emitting heat that causes ulcers in the oral mucosa. Usually, canker sores have many ulcers, making children very uncomfortable, drooling a lot, and losing weight because they cannot eat or eat very little.

Children are often tired, have trouble sleeping or cry because of pain, especially when eating or drinking. Mouth ulcers can also be caused by the herpes virus and usually only cause one ulcer. Mouth ulcers caused by the herpes virus have the same symptoms as mouth ulcers caused by heat.

In addition, mouth ulcers can be caused by the varicella virus (chickenpox), the virus that causes hand, foot and mouth disease (Coxsackie virus A16 or EV 71 virus). Mouth ulcers caused by the varicella virus or the virus that causes hand, foot and mouth disease, in addition to causing blisters on the skin, the mucous membranes of the palms, feet, and buttocks (hand, foot and mouth disease), can also cause blisters on the oral mucosa. The oral mucosa caused by chickenpox or hand, foot and mouth disease often has many blisters, ulcers, causing pain, burning, drooling and fever.

In children, malnutrition or poor absorption, causing a lack of essential micronutrients such as vitamin PP, vitamin C, vitamin B12, folic acid, and iron can also cause mouth ulcers. Mouth ulcers can also be caused by trauma that causes inflammation and bruising of the oral mucosa (the child falls and hits the mouth area) or can be caused by eating food or drinking water that is too hot, causing burns and ulcers in the oral mucosa, causing pain. Older children who are constantly stressed can also develop mouth ulcers.

Mouth ulcers have many different causes. Some are simple (canker sores) but some can cause dangerous complications. Therefore, when children have mouth ulcers, they should be taken to the doctor to determine the cause.

Mouth ulcers cause pain and burning, so using painkillers for children is very necessary, but the type of medicine that is suitable for each child is the job of the examining doctor. Parents should not buy medicine for their children. Children should be given liquid, pureed food (porridge, soup, nutritional powder), not hot, not spicy, not sour and best of all, it should suit the child's daily taste.
