At least 20 people were killed in a stampede on July 10 at a cigarette factory in the city of Mymensingh, Bangladesh.

The stampede occurred as hundreds of people were trying to break into the factory's inner area through a small gate, hoping to receive free clothes.

According to police sources, most of the victims were women and came from difficult circumstances. Authorities discovered 20 bodies at the scene.

However, the death toll could be even higher as many victims' relatives have brought the bodies home.

The factory owner and six people involved have been arrested. Police said that before the accident, more than 1,500 people gathered in front of the factory after the factory owner announced that he would give away free clothes to the poor in accordance with Islamic rituals.

According to Bangladeshi rituals, rich people often give free clothes to poor people during Ramadan./
