The difficulty for Pu Huong Nature Reserve (BTTN) is that the area is quite large - over 40,000 hectares, the poverty rate in this conservation area is still quite high, people's lives are mainly forestry, slash-and-burn farming. Many localities still have a large area of slash-and-burn farming such as Tuong Duong, Que Phong, Quy Chau ... However, there are still localities that have reclaimed rice fields, reducing slash-and-burn farming, such as Quang Phong commune (Que Phong) which manages over 13,000 hectares of forest, previously there were hundreds of hectares of slash-and-burn farming, after reclaiming over 190 hectares of rice fields, the slash-and-burn farming is only over 20 hectares. Quang Phong commune has established mobile PCCCR teams, signed PCCCR commitments to households in 13 villages. Coordinate with local forest rangers to regularly check the forest, especially check people who burn slash-and-burn farming to have timely handling.
The risk of forest fires from slash-and-burn farming remains very high in the forests of southwestern Nghe An.

Therefore, slash-and-burn management is always a top priority. Pu Huong Nature Reserve coordinates with the functional departments of the district and commune to review the boundaries, slash-and-burn areas and planning to stabilize production and do a good job of forest fire prevention and control. From there, a plan is implemented to closely monitor slash-and-burn production according to the correct procedures. Strengthen patrolling and inspection to guide people on techniques for handling vegetation for slash-and-burn farming. Must report to the village chief and the forest fire prevention and control team before burning the vegetation.
At this time, Pu Huong Nature Reserve is building a forest fire watchtower in Quy Hop Town, implementing new construction and repairing fire prohibition signs at the forest entrance. Purchasing additional hand-held fire fighting tools such as fire brooms, water cans, long-handled knives, etc. For forest fire fighting plans, implementing the "4 on-site" plan, when a small-scale forest fire occurs, that area must mobilize its own forces to extinguish it.
