Minimizing environmental pollution caused by pesticides.
(Baonghean.vn) - This requirement was emphasized at the conference summarizing the work of 2018 and implementing tasks for 2019, held on the afternoon of January 3rd by the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection.
In 2018, despite numerous difficulties and complex natural disasters, the province's crop production and plant protection sector achieved remarkable results. The entire province planted over 188,897 hectares of rice, exceeding the planned target, with a yield of 54.57 quintals/hectare, and a total estimated production of over 1,030,834 tons; nearly 54,000 hectares of corn; over 14,417 hectares of peanuts; and over 31,574 tons of various vegetables... In addition, industrial crops such as cassava, sugarcane, oranges, and tea were also given attention for development.

During the year, Nghe An province implemented the construction of 46 large-scale rice farming models, permanently converting over 490 hectares of low-yield rice land to other crops.

In fulfilling its functions, the Sub-Department focused on directing the investigation, detection, and timely forecasting of pest outbreaks on various crops; controlling pests on 98,996 hectares out of 115,667 hectares infected with various diseases, preventing widespread outbreaks; and collecting and thoroughly disposing of 2.5 tons of used pesticide packaging. It also conducted inspections of pesticide, seed, and fertilizer production and trading establishments, and carried out domestic plant quarantine.
In particular, continued research and application of scientific and technological advancements such as the ICM program (3 reductions, 3 increases), SRI (System of Rice Intensification), IPM (Integrated Pest Management), and community-based sustainable management models for rice pests and diseases, minimizing the risk of pesticide contamination. The sector's achievements contributed to agricultural growth of 5.04%, with Nghe An's grain production reaching 1,266,000 tons in 2018.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Lap, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, affirmed that the Crop Production and Plant Protection sector made a significant contribution to the outstanding results achieved by Nghe An's agricultural sector in 2018.
At the same time, it highlighted some limitations such as violations of regulations on the production and trading of plant seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.

In 2019, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection needs to continue improving the effectiveness of state management, providing timely and accurate advice to the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on crop production, plant protection, plant quarantine, management of business and use of agricultural inputs, as well as food safety and hygiene in the production, processing, and preservation of agricultural products. It should proactively monitor production conditions, track the development of pests and diseases on crops to advise and direct control measures; and promote the transfer of science and technology in line with sustainable, safe food hygiene and commodity production.

In particular, the sector is stepping up propaganda and training for farmers on the safe and effective use of fertilizers, pesticides, and food safety, and is resolutely implementing solutions to replicate models of clean agricultural production.
On this occasion, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection received the Emulation Flag from the Provincial People's Committee; 3 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee for outstanding achievements in their work. 8 collectives and 33 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; 23 individuals were awarded the title of Emulation Soldier at the grassroots level.
