Reduce environmental pollution caused by pesticides
(Baonghean.vn) - This requirement was emphasized at the conference to summarize the work of 2018 and deploy tasks for 2019 held on the afternoon of January 3 by the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection.
In 2018, despite many difficulties and complex natural disasters, the province's crop and plant protection sector achieved remarkable results. The province planted over 188,897 hectares of rice, exceeding the set plan, with a yield of 54.57 quintals/ha, and an estimated total output of over 1,030,834 tons; corn on nearly 54,000 hectares; peanuts on over 14,417 hectares; vegetables of all kinds on over 31,574 tons... In addition, industrial crops such as cassava, sugarcane, oranges, and tea have also received attention for development.

During the year, Nghe An implemented the construction of 46 large-scale rice field models, permanently converting over 490 hectares of ineffective rice land to other crops.

With its functions, the Department has focused on directing the implementation of investigations, detecting, and promptly forecasting pests that may arise on crops; preventing 98,996 ha/115,667 ha of various types of pests from occurring, preventing widespread pests; collecting and thoroughly treating 2.5 tons of used pesticide packaging; inspecting establishments producing and trading pesticides, seeds and fertilizers, and conducting domestic plant quarantine.
In particular, continue to research and apply scientific and technological advances such as the ICM program (3 reductions, 3 increases), SRI (system of improved rice intensification); IPM (integrated pest management) and community management models for sustainable management of rice pests and diseases, minimizing the risk of pesticide contamination. The results of the industry have contributed to agricultural growth of 5.04%, Nghe An's grain products reached 1 million 266,000 tons in 2018.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Lap - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development affirmed that the outstanding results achieved by Nghe An's agricultural sector in 2018 had a great contribution from the Crop Production and Plant Protection sector.
At the same time, it pointed out some limitations such as violations of regulations on production and trading of plant varieties, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.

In 2019, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection needs to continue to improve the effectiveness of state management, promptly and accurately advise the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on the fields of crop production, plant protection, plant quarantine, business management, use of agricultural materials as well as food safety and hygiene in production, preliminary processing and preservation of agricultural products. Proactively grasp the production situation, monitor the development of pests on crops to advise and direct prevention measures; promote the transfer of science and technology towards sustainability, food safety and hygiene and commodity production.

In particular, the industry has stepped up propaganda and training for farmers on the safe and effective use of fertilizers, pesticides and food safety, and resolutely implemented solutions to replicate clean agricultural production models.
On this occasion, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection received the Emulation Flag of the Provincial People's Committee; 3 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in work. 8 collectives and 33 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; 23 individuals achieved the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level.
