(Baonghean.vn) - Cam Lam commune and part of Lang Khe commune (Con Cuong) are mainly inhabited by Thai people living on the left bank of Lam river. This is an area with many difficulties in transportation. People's lives are therefore significantly affected.

In the rainy days of early 2015, we had a field trip to Cam Lam commune, Lang Khe (Con Cuong district). We started our journey from Bai Gao village (Chau Khe commune) through Cong village, Bach Son (Cam Lam commune) and then returned to National Highway 7A by the road from Bach Son village, through the ferry terminal of Yen Hoa village (Lang Khe commune).

The road to Cam Lam through Bai Gao village (Chau Khe) is muddy when it rains.

It had been raining heavily for three days straight, so this road, which had almost no asphalt, was very muddy, made even more difficult by the rain and the winter cold. We had a hard time keeping our hands on the wheel.

Along the road from Cong village to Bach Son village, groups of students walk back to their village. They are students of Cam Lam Secondary School. Vi Van Nguyen, a 9th grader, said: Bach Son village is 5km from school, mostly on dirt roads. It is very difficult to travel on rainy days. During the rainy season, students in the village have to stay home from school because the stream water rises, the bridge is temporarily washed away, and they cannot cross.

The students in the village usually go to school at dawn and return home at dusk. They often have to bring lunch to stay if they have afternoon classes.

The road from Bach Son village to Yen Hoa village is somewhat smoother, but because it is a dirt road, it is also very muddy on rainy days. However, people in Bach Son village often choose this road to go to the market or to the district center when necessary. And when hitching a ride at this long-standing ferry station, each passerby has to pay 10,000 VND for each round trip.

Without a bridge, villagers have to transport cassava by boat to sell to private traders.

During the cassava harvest season, people also have to brave the rain to ferry cassava across the river to import from traders. According to a resident of Yen Hoa village, the price of each kilogram of cassava on the other side of the river is 2,000 - 3,000 VND lower than the market price. The ferry is also a big obstacle for students on the left bank. Every day, dozens of students still go back and forth through this ferry.
