The conference disseminated legal documents on food safety, such as Directive No. 08 of the Secretariat (Term XI) "On strengthening the Party's leadership on food safety in the new situation; National food safety strategy for the period 2011 - 2020 and vision to 2030" and assessed the situation of ensuring food safety and hygiene in 2011 and the first quarter of 2012 nationwide.
The report of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Hygiene and Safety presented at the conference stated: in 2011 and the first quarter of 2012, communication and education on food safety were implemented effectively, 83% of producers, 82% of traders, 82% of consumers and 93.5% of managers had correct understanding of food safety; inspection, examination and handling of violations were promoted and implemented vigorously with 22,378 inter-sectoral inspection teams at 634,093 establishments, in addition to administrative sanctions and production suspension, 170 violations were publicized in the mass media; In addition to the achievements, there are still shortcomings such as food poisoning in industrial kitchens has not decreased, control of input materials is still difficult, many establishments providing ready-made meals have not met food safety standards; handling of violations is still lenient, at district and commune levels, there are not many surprise inspections, sometimes overlapping; violations in food advertising, especially functional foods, are quite common...
In Nghe An, during the “Month of action for food hygiene and safety” and the work of ensuring food hygiene and safety in the first quarter of 2012, the Steering Committee established over 460 interdisciplinary inspection teams to inspect 9,295 establishments, thereby detecting 1,470 establishments in violation, handling 799 establishments in violation, fining 89 establishments with the amount of 14,300,000 VND; the work of controlling slaughter, checking veterinary hygiene of animals and animal products was deployed in all districts in the province: 87 points and slaughter establishments were inspected, the total number of controlled slaughtered cattle was over 15,000, the total number of animal products checked for veterinary hygiene was 879,755 kg, destroying 332 kg of pork of unknown origin.
The conference listened to opinions and reports from relevant ministries, sectors and 63 provinces and cities on ensuring food safety and hygiene and set out key tasks in 2012. Accordingly, in 2012, documents guiding the Law on Food Safety will be completed, guiding the dissemination, propaganda and education of changing food safety behaviors; inspecting the production, business and use of food additives; strictly managing food advertising activities, especially for products for children and functional foods; inspecting the production, business and use of pesticides, animal feed, growth stimulants; strictly controlling food products of unknown origin and smuggled goods; strengthening food safety control for street food and collective kitchens in industrial zones.
