Mr. Mai Van Truong said that his family has been raising goats for 15 years. At first, they only raised 5-7 goats, partly because the newlywed couple had difficulty living on their own and had no capital, and partly because they had no experience in raising goats. Later, they saw that raising goats was profitable, the investment of effort and food was not much, and the products were consumed quickly, so the family boldly increased the number of goats to 100.
The goat raising model of Mr. Truong and his wife is a confined type. The barn is built in a neat and orderly manner, with high and airy frames. A long row of barns is divided into 4 compartments, with a yard in front; each yard is closed with B40 steel mesh and covered with dry banana leaves. The number of goats in the barn is usually maintained at about 100, divided equally among 4 compartments.

According to Mr. Truong, controlling the quantity and raising them in compartments and batches like this makes it easy to monitor and care for, and it is also convenient when buying and selling. The initial cost is hundreds of millions of dong, after that, just buy and sell alternately.
Because of the confinement, Mr. Truong's family used 8 sao of cropland to grow grass for goat feed. Half of this area is in Nam Loc commune, the other half has to be rented in Nam Tan commune. "There are many types of grass, so don't cut the same type of grass for many days, it will make the goats bored. Usually, goats are fed twice a day, morning and afternoon, overnight. In addition to grass, goats are also fed bran, corn and other types of leaves..." - Mr. Truong shared.
According to Mr. Truong, the most difficult part of raising goats is disease treatment. It is necessary to know how to detect diseases early and handle them promptly.

Being a diligent and hard-working person, he always seeks to learn and improve his knowledge in goat raising. Currently, he is a "doctor" who is good at treating diseases for his family's goats, and "examines" and injects medicine for the goats when they are sick. "If you raise goats without understanding some common diseases and not knowing how to treat them when they get sick, you will fail," said Mr. Truong.
After 15 years of raising goats, Mr. Truong and his wife's reputation is not only famous in Nam Dan but also spread to neighboring districts. The livestock products of the couple are not sold but are bought at home by slaughterhouses, goat meat shops in Nam Dan, Vinh City and traders. Every 4 months, he exports a batch of goats weighing 25 - 33 kg/head; the current price of live goats is 135,000 - 140,000 VND/kg; the source of the breed is grass goats purchased from surrounding communes.

Mr. Truong said that he usually sells by the compartments, and buys enough goats for each compartment; after deducting expenses, each litter of goats brings in a net profit of nearly 100 million VND. Each year, his family earns about 300 million VND from goats.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Huong, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nam Loc Commune commented: "Mr. Mai Van Truong is a person with a lot of experience in goat farming, dares to think, dares to do, dares to invest. Over the years, Mr. Truong's goat farming model has affirmed its outstanding effectiveness and has become one of the pioneers in livestock farming in the locality."
