Exchange and introduce the English version of Nguyen Trai's Poetry Collection

(Baonghean) –This morning, May 25, Vinh University organized a literary exchange with two translators, Paul Hoover and Nguyen Do, to introduce a collection of Nguyen Trai's poems translated into English, titled "Beyond the court".

The meeting was attended by literary critic Pham Xuan Nguyen (Chairman of the Hanoi Writers Association), poet Nguyen Duy, Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Tri Dung (Head of the Faculty of Literature - Vinh University), and a large number of teachers, students of Vinh University, and students of high schools in the city.

Translator Paul Hoover is currently a professor of Creative Writing at the University of California at San Francisco (USA). Translator Nguyen Do is a former student of Vinh University. He is a poet, journalist and has published many valuable poetry collections such as “The Void”, “New Darkness”, “Black Dog – Black Night”… In 2005, he was awarded the prize of the “New York City Poetry Foundation”. Currently, Mr. Nguyen Do lives and works in San Francisco, USA.

The collection of Nguyen Trai's poems translated into English, titled "Beyond the court", is a collection of poems carefully translated and filled with the passion of two translators, wishing to bring to readers abroad a complete account of the career and personality of Nguyen Trai - a national hero, a great cultural figure of Vietnam.

A large number of lecturers, students and pupils attended the exchange session.

The exchange took place in a friendly and intimate atmosphere. The translators presented 5 typical poems of Nguyen Trai in “Leaving the Court” Selected Poems of Nguyen Trai (Counterpath Press, 2010) in Chinese vowels, translated into Vietnamese and English.

At the meeting, poet Nguyen Duy also introduced the poetry collection "Ve Con Son" by Nguyen Trai in three languages: Chinese, Vietnamese, and English.
