Professor Nguyen Van Hieu received his doctorate in French.
On the afternoon of October 18, Cachan Pedagogical University (ENS - Cachan), one of the major French universities located in the suburbs of Paris, awarded an honorary doctorate to professor-academician Nguyen Van Hieu.

In a ceremony held on campus with the participation of many professors and lecturers of the school, Vietnamese-American physics professor Jean Tran Thanh Van and a number of Vietnamese intellectuals and postgraduates in France, Professor Pierre-Paul Zalio, Director of ENS Cachan, officially awarded an honorary doctorate certificate to Academician Nguyen Van Hieu.
The decision to award an honorary doctorate to academician Nguyen Van Hieu was made by ENS Cachan two years ago, but it is only now that the Vietnamese scientist has arranged to meet with the school's leadership.
According to Professor Pierre-Paul Zalio, this title recognizes Academician Nguyen Van Hieu's research works in physics, his contributions to building cooperative relations between Vietnam and France, especially with Cachan Pedagogical University.
Professor Mireille Tadjeddine, former Head of the Physics Department of Cachan Pedagogical University, in her speech reviewing the contributions of Professor Nguyen Van Hieu, commented that he was "one of the greatest scientists of Vietnam, who actively participated in the scientific life and university development of the country and had close relations with the science and education system of France."
Despite holding many managerial positions, Professor Nguyen Van Hieu has published about 130 research works in the field of quantum physics. From 1996 to 1999, he was a member of the Committee on Particles and Fields, of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Physics (IUPAP).
Cachan University of Education was established in 1891 and has 17 faculties. Since the 1990s, the school has had many cooperation projects with Vietnam, starting with sending lecturers to teach at Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Pedagogical Universities. The school has received many lecturers from Vietnamese universities for internship and many excellent Vietnamese students for training.
ENS Cachan is also among the group of French universities participating in supporting the establishment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, a public university in Vietnam's roadmap to build world-class training facilities, a project in which Professor Nguyen Van Hieu has been an active participant from the beginning./.
