In addition to organizing free lessons, many teachers in Nghe An are willing to spend extra time at home to accompany parents and final year students in reviewing.

Free lessons

After just over 1 day of implementation, Ho Tong Thoc Secondary School (Tho Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh) has received hundreds of applications from teachers and students with the content of registering for extra teaching and learning. In addition to the final year students, many students who are "not qualified" in grades 6, 7, and 8 also want to receive tutoring. The large number of students registering is within the school's prediction, because the commune is far from the centers and there is only 1 center that organizes extra teaching outside.

This year’s exam took place under special conditions, as the Education Department implemented Circular 29. However, in order not to interrupt students’ learning, all teachers at our school volunteered to teach free extra classes to maintain afternoon review classes. To facilitate the review work, we also asked students to write applications, propose their wishes, and classify students by subject for effective teaching.

Previously, in the 2024 enrollment season, Ho Tong Thoc Secondary School (Tho Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District) ranked 5th in the district in terms of enrollment quality for grade 10, with a public admission rate of 87%. This result is both a motivation and a pressure for this year's enrollment season, as the school continues to aim to be in the top 10 of the district and the quality of Literature, Math, and English has improved.

Having taught final year students for many years, teacher Nguyen Thi Thuy - a teacher at Ho Tong Thoc Secondary School, shared that this is an especially difficult exam. Meanwhile, students from Tho Thanh commune are in an area with a high competition rate, concentrated in top schools in the two districts of Dien Chau and Yen Thanh such as Bac Yen Thanh High School, Phan Dang Luu High School and Dien Chau 2 High School. That is also the reason why when the school stopped organizing extra classes and tutoring, she was willing to write a voluntary application to teach students preparing for the 10th grade entrance exam.

This is the first year that students take the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program and also the first time that they approach the 10th grade entrance exam with a new structure. The exam with test materials completely outside the textbooks not only affects students' learning but also, first of all, affects teachers' teaching methods. There is no longer a situation of rote learning or model teaching. Teachers must also improve their professional capacity to guide students to promote positivity and initiative in approaching literary works.

During the learning process, instead of analyzing the work in the textbook in depth as in the old exam structure, teachers now mainly teach students how to approach, exploit, and perceive a new work, gradually forming more proficient test-taking skills. In fact, to meet the requirements of a periodic test, students must apply good reading comprehension skills in both the content and form of the text. With the system of questions in the test, students are required to read the text carefully to answer.

"Don't let students fall behind" is the message from the teachers of Nguyen Canh Chan High School (Thanh Chuong district) to students as the 2025 high school graduation exam season is approaching.

Accompanying students, Nguyen Canh Chan High School is one of the first high schools to organize free exam review for students.

Circular 29 has caused many disadvantages for students, parents, teachers and schools. In fact, many students in the school need to be trained to take the competency assessment test, need to study to get high scores when applying to prestigious universities. In addition, many weak students need tutoring to be able to pass the exams. On the school side, it is necessary to ensure the output quality according to the commitment with the Department of Education and Training, the district, parents, students...

According to the Principal of Nguyen Canh Chan Secondary School, free tutoring with "zero-dong" lessons is not a "strange" thing at the school because before that, each year the school's teachers conducted more than 300 free exam review lessons for students who did not meet the output standards in grade 12.

This school year, with the goal of ensuring the school's educational quality, not letting students fall behind, not letting senior students encounter difficulties when entering the graduation exam, the school has developed and implemented a free teaching plan for students and received 100% of teachers' agreement to register to teach 1,216 periods, equivalent to 608 sessions.

Ready to provide extra support after hours for students to review

Not only teaching for free, many teachers in Nghe An also said that they are willing to provide extra support after hours to accompany parents and students when they study at home.

At Anh Son Secondary School (Anh Son district), a top school in the province, the pressure onEntrance exam for grade 10simultaneously affects students and teachers of the school. Therefore, in addition to implementing free exam review early, teachers also take advantage of regular teaching hours at school and are ready to provide extra support after hours for students during the review process.

Sharing about this, teacher Dang Thi Ngoc Ha - Math teacher said: "Although we organize free extra classes, we no longer have much time to tutor, remind and take care of students like before. Therefore, teachers have to adjust their teaching plans, class time is mainly to help students understand the lesson. For exercises, grading, and correction, teachers have to increase at home. Currently, after each lesson, I will give exercises classified according to each student group. After each chapter, I will give exams using innovative methods so that students can access and study at home. At the same time, I regularly remind and coordinate with parents to tutor students at home".

Because there is not much time left to ask questions and check old lessons in class, I will increase my calls to parents to check homework, grade and correct students' papers via Zalo for each group of students. For students with limited abilities, I will guide parents to help them at home with the content that the teacher instructs. For students with good abilities, I will give them exercises on major topics so that they can study and improve their knowledge on their own.

The change in teaching methods is also being implemented by teachers at Anh Son High School as class time is being shortened, leaving little time for review and practice. In addition, the change is also to match the new way of making exam questions according to the 2018 General Education Program.

Talking about this, teacher Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong - History teacher of Anh Son High School, said: "We take advantage of every moment to impart all knowledge to students. Like in the morning main class, the old lesson question will assign homework for students to do at home and upload homework on the class's Zalo group. In addition, we also strengthen the guidance for students to self-study through groups, websites, and guide students to take practice tests through the Department's LMS system. Teachers also regularly encourage and motivate students to be proactive in studying and taking practice tests, and praise students who achieve high results so that they can try harder.

In preparation for this year's exam and to avoid disruption to school learning, the Department of Education and Training has requested schools to strengthen the role and responsibility of managers and teachers in management and teaching; strictly implement the school's education plan to ensure the quality of education.

During the teaching process, it is necessary to identify core knowledge and specific competencies of each subject, and prioritize classroom teaching time to form knowledge for students. The Department of Education and Training also requires schools to continue implementing review plans for 9th and 12th graders to ensure that 100% of students wish to review, in order to ensure their rights in the 2025-2026 High School Entrance Exam and the 2025 High School Graduation Exam.
