Mother receives 24-month suspended sentence for giving car to underage child causing accident
Because she gave her car to her underage child and caused an accident that killed 4 people, Ms. Ro Mah Pil (38 years old) was just sentenced to 24 months in prison with a suspended sentence by the District People's Court.
On the morning of March 27, at the cultural house of the People's Committee of Ia Lau commune, Chu Prong district (Gia Lai province), the District People's Court held a mobile trial with defendant Ro Mah Pil (born in 1986, in Ia Lau commune, Chu Prong district) for "Crime of allowing an unqualified person to drive a vehicle to participate in road traffic", according to Clause 3, Article 264 of the Penal Code.
After a working session, due to many mitigating circumstances such as raising two small children, poor family, having overcome the consequences and having a child in the accident who also died, the panel sentenced defendant Ro Mah Pil to 24 months in prison with a possible life sentence.suspended sentence, the probationary period is 48 months.

According to the indictment, in 2021, Ms. Ro Mah Pil bought a motorbike with license plate number 81B2-636.82 and a cylinder capacity of 109cm. After purchasing it, Ms. Ro Mah Pil gave the motorbike to her biological son, Ro Mah Tinh (born in 2006, without a driver's license) for daily use.
At noon on October 25, 2023, Ro Mah Tinh drank beer and wine to celebrate the housewarming of a resident in the same village, and in the afternoon, he returned home to rest. At around 5:30 p.m., Ms. Ro Mah Pil went out to buy some supplies and returned to see Ro Mah Tinh sitting on a motorbike with license plate 81B2-636.82, not wearing a helmet, talking with a group of friends, including Niang Keo (born in 2005, residing in Tu 2 village, same commune).
When she got closer to her son, Ms. Ro Mah Pil smelled alcohol and asked where he was going. Ro Mah Tinh replied that she was going to Keo's house to play. Then Ro Mah Tinh drove away with her friend, while Ro Mah Pil said nothing and went home.
At around 5:45 p.m. the same day, Ro Mah Tinh drove a car carrying Niang Keo and Siu Ngu on the inter-commune road from La Lau to La Ga commune. When reaching Km10+90km, the section passing through Pac Bo village (La Lau commune, Chu Prong district), due to not paying attention and not controlling the speed, the car driven by Ro Mah Tinh crashed into a motorbike with license plate number 81B2-199.06 driven by Ro Mah Tuyen going in the opposite direction.
As a result, Ro Mah Tuyen, Ro Mah Tinh, and Niang Keo died on the spot. Siu Ngu was taken to the emergency room but later died at Gia Lai General Hospital. The two motorbikes were severely damaged.
According to the forensic conclusion of the Institute of Criminal Science and Technology in Da Nang City, no alcohol concentration was found in the blood sample of the victim Ro Mah Tuyen; in the blood sample of Ro Mah Tinh, the Ethanol concentration was 170mg/100ml; in the blood sample of Niang Keo, the alcohol concentration was 88mg/100ml; in the blood sample of Siu Ngu, the Ethanol concentration was 77mg/100ml.
In the blood samples collected from the corpses, no drugs or drug metabolites were found.
