Xa Doai Cathedral Parish opens the mass

(Baonghean.vn) - This is also the parish that organizes the adoration week in the first week of 2020 in Nghe An.

On January 3, Xa Doai Parish in Nghi Dien Commune, Nghi Loc District held the opening ceremony of the second week of thanksgiving to the Blessed Sacrament of the 100-year cycle.

Attending the event were Bishop Paul Maria Cao Dinh Thuyen, former Bishop of Vinh Diocese, and about 40 priests from his hometown, Xa Doai Diocese, and many people inside and outside Xa Doai Parish and Xa Doai Diocese.

At the opening ceremony, through the rituals of worshiping the Sacred Heart and the Eucharistic adoration, the parish reiterated the importance, value and goals of the adoration week, praising and honoring Jesus and calling on parishioners to join in offering the Holy Mass in a solemn and respectful manner.

As the mother parish, the base and center of the Vinh Catholic Church, the week of adoration at Xa Doai Parish has a special meaning, starting a new cycle of adoration for the entire Vinh Diocese. The rituals and sacraments in the opening mass therefore also aim to give thanks for the graces that the Church has received in the past year and pray for a favorable year for Vinh Diocese in general and Xa Doai Parish in particular.

It is expected that after the opening mass, the next 2 days will be the Epiphany mass, adoration masses and will close on the afternoon of January 5.

Located in the Northwest of Nghi Loc district, Xa Doai parish was established at the same time as Vinh diocese was established (in 1846), is the headquarters of Xa Doai deanery; with 3 parishes (Xa Doai, Ngoc Thanh, Bui Chu), has more than 8,300 parishioners, currently led by priest Phaolo Nguyen Van Hieu as parish priest.
