International driving permit issued in August
People who need to get an international driving license can apply online nationwide and pay the fee by bank transfer.

Mr. Nguyen Thang Quan - Director of Vehicle and Driver Management Department, General Department of Roads said that the unit is deploying, building the foundation, circulars and specific regulations so that by August, when the Vienna Convention (1968 International Convention on Road Traffic and Convention on Road Signs and Signals) comes into effect, it will start issuing international driving licenses in localities nationwide.
According to Mr. Quan, the draft Circular on the issuance of international driving licenses aims to have simple procedures and the fastest time, allowing those in need to declare information online, only coming once to pay the fee and take a photo.
The agency also considers paying fees by bank transfer and using photos already in the national driver's license database.
The international driving license is in the form of a passport-like booklet, printed in English, French, Russian, Spanish and local languages, and is valid in 73 countries, mostly European countries, and 5 countries in Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia).
The license also clearly states what type of car or motorbike the owner is allowed to drive, and the license is valid for 1-3 years. The fee for an international driving license is equivalent to the fee for a new material driving license (PET) of 135,000 VND.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the number of member countries participating in the Vienna Convention was previously 85, but has now been reduced to 73.
