Life and death moments at sea told by a Nghe An sailor who survived and returned home

(Baonghean.vn) - At 5 pm on June 30, the bodies of one crew member and two others injured in the sinking were brought to Nghe An by the rescue ship SAR 411. When they arrived at Cua Lo port, relatives cried to welcome the crew members, leaving many people unable to hold back their tears.

(Baonghean.vn) - The two rescued crew members, Mr. Dinh Trong Dung and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuyen, and the body of Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa were brought back to the mainland by SAR 411 ship two days after the ship sank.
"You're back, where's the baby?"
Late afternoon of June 30, an atmosphere of mourning enveloped the fishing village of Quynh when out there, 9 fishermen were still missing and had not been found.
Hearing the news that the body of sailor Nguyen Van Hoa was brought home, people from the fishing village of Tien Thuy commune gathered in large numbers at the home of Thai Thi Ly - Hoa's wife.

At 6:30 p.m. the same day, the hearse carrying the body of sailor Nguyen Van Hoa arrived home. The wife's screams calling her husband's name and the older sister's voice calling her younger brother's name made the people witnessing it unable to hold back their tears.
"Why did you leave me and our child? Honey, you're home. Where is our child? Take the child home with you," Ms. Ly called out to her husband and child, her voice choking.
The pain of losing her husband and son left Ms. Ly unable to stand up for the funeral rites. Next to the hastily set-up altar, her two young daughters, unable to feel the pain of losing their father and brother, could only sit and look around.

Thai Thi Ly's family situation is extremely difficult. In addition to her husband, Nguyen Van Hoa, who has been brought home, her eldest son, Nguyen Van Phong, and two grandchildren, Nguyen Van Manh and Nguyen Van Tung, are still missing in the cold, deep sea.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - a neighbor said: "Since hearing the news that her husband and children were in an accident at sea, Ms. Ly, her mother over 80 years old and 2 young children cried bitterly. This is a huge loss for Ms. Ly's family."

Lucky for those who stay
Besides the pain, the fact that 2/9 of the surviving crew members returned home today was truly a miracle and a blessing to them. When Mr. Dinh Trong Dung (1 of the 2 surviving crew members brought ashore) arrived at his house, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lien (Mr. Dung’s wife) rushed to hug her husband.
In the laughter, there were also sobs from Mrs. Lien when she saw her husband and son return alive. Although he could not hide his joy and sadness, Mr. Dung could not smile when his 9 crewmates were still not found.

On the evening of June 30, Mr. Dinh Trong Dung's house was packed with people coming to visit. Recounting the life-and-death moment, Mr. Dung said that at about 12:50 p.m. on June 28, when the crew members on the ship were taking a lunch break, suddenly a cargo ship pointed its bow straight at his ship.
“At that time, some people were still awake, when they discovered the incident, they shouted loudly. When I opened my eyes, I saw a giant ship crash into us, our fishing boat capsized, water rushed in very quickly,” Mr. Dung recalled.
According to Mr. Dung, at that time, many crew members were lying in the cabin, and the incident happened so quickly that very few people were able to get out of the ship's hold and surface.

“I myself was sinking at that time, then I managed to surface and swam away. A while later, I was rescued by a cargo ship,” Mr. Dung recalled.
Fisherman Dinh Trong Dung added that currently, 7 fishermen are still clinging to the sea, along with rescue forces searching for the missing crew members.
