(Baonghean.vn) - Prolonged heat and drought have caused wells in the semi-mountainous communes of Hung Yen Nam, Hung Yen Bac, Hung Tay... to dry up, forcing people to beg for water every day.

Most of the dug wells in Hung Yen Bac and Hung Yen Nam communes of Hung Nguyen are dry.

For more than half a month now, every day, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Loc in Hamlet 3B, Hung Yen Bac Commune has had to ride his bicycle to beg for water (20 liters) for daily use. His house is on a hill, so the man, who is over 60 years old, has had to push his cart uphill to bring water.

Every day, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Loc in hamlet 3B, Hung Yen Bac commune goes to get water for his family's daily activities.

Next to Mr. Loc's house, the well of Mrs. Hoang Thi Phuc's family is also dry. Her family has invested 10 million VND to drill the well and buy a pump, but the well has little water. Pumping all day only yields half a 50-liter plastic barrel. "The well has been dry since the beginning of the season. Every day, I have to go down to the village below to ask for water. Some days I ask for water from this house, and tomorrow I go to another house to get water for drinking. I drilled a well but the water is still little, not enough for use," Mrs. Phuc complained.

Currently, in the two communes of Hung Yen Bac and Hung Yen Nam, Hung Nguyen district, there is a serious shortage of domestic water, hundreds of families have to go out every day to beg for water for drinking. Mr. Phan Bui Hieu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Yen Nam commune, said: "The prolonged drought not only lacks irrigation water for agricultural production, hundreds of hectares of rice fields have no water and have to switch to other crops but still cannot produce. Drinking water for buffaloes and cows is also lacking. The most dangerous thing is the lack of domestic water for the people, we mobilize households that have drilled wells to help and share water sources with households lacking water".

Many households hire workers to drill underground wells to find clean water, but the water source is not as abundant as desired.

Not only the two semi-mountainous communes of Hung Yen Bac and Hung Yen Nam, but currently thousands of households in Hung Nguyen are lacking water for daily use, especially households using dug wells. Although on July 27, due to the impact of storm No. 1, there was rain in the area, but the amount of rain was only enough to cool the ground, while the wells were still dry, people were still struggling with the lack of water for daily use.
