Coconut seller in Saigon sentenced to death for killing 3 lovers

Admitting that his crime was very serious, Hung asked to receive the highest sentence and be executed early.

On December 19, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court sentenced Le Thanh Hung (36 years old, from Dong Thap) to death for murder and robbery. He killed many people, causing extremely serious consequences, so the court needed to punish him severely as a deterrent.

Previously, Hung appeared sincere, admitting all the crimes as accused. In his final words, he asked to receive the highest sentence and be executed early because "the crime he committed was too great".

The investigation results determined that after serving 6 months in prison for a traffic violation, in 2012 Hung went to Ho Chi Minh City to sell coconuts for a living by pushing a tricycle. He often supplied to Ms. Thuy - the owner of a rice shop in Binh Tan district - and gradually developed feelings for her.

Being prevented by his lover's family, Hung asked Thuy to rent a room to live together. Later, when they discovered that Hung already had a wife in the countryside and was having relationships with many other girls (including a female worker named Tuyet), Thuy left and returned home. Hung tried many times to win back their relationship but was chased away and beaten by Nhan (Thuy's younger brother).

With hatred in his heart, on the afternoon of December 23, 2013, Mr. Nhan was selling rice when Hung came from behind and hit him in the head with a hammer, knocking him unconscious. Ms. Thuy saw and screamed, but her lover also rushed forward and hit her many times in the head before running away. The two victims escaped death but suffered from 22-61% disability.

Escaping to Di An town (Binh Duong) to work as a construction worker, Hung developed feelings for a coffee shop waitress named Thanh (26 years old). Hearing the girl complain about the low salary there, Hung promised to introduce her to a better job in Saigon.

On the night of April 24, 2014, the guy invited the girl to rent a motel in Binh Tan district to "talk". While taking a shower, Ms. Thanh discovered that her necklace was missing and blamed Hung for it, causing an argument between the two. Thanh attacked her with a piece of wood, but he grabbed her and beat her to death, wrapped her body in a blanket, hid it under the bed, and then fled with the victim's phone.

Arrested more than a month later, Hung admitted to his actions. He also confessed to raping and murdering a female worker named Tuyet in Tram forest in Vinh Loc B commune, Binh Chanh district.

Earlier this year, the case was brought to trial. Hung said that Thuy broke up with him because she discovered he was having an affair with Tuyet. Wanting to keep the relationship with the rice shop owner, he came to her and said, "Do I have to kill her for you to forgive me?" He said that Thuy agreed and bought him a knife.

In court, Ms. Thuy confirmed that she did not know anyone named Tuyet, nor did she give the knife to Hung, and that she broke up with him because she knew he had a wife and children in the countryside. She said that Hung called her all day to ask for money and once threatened her with a knife, so she was very scared.

The panel of judges then decided to return the case for further investigation. There were many conflicting details in the investigation of this case, so the police separated it into another case.
