Murder and robbery, a 9th grade student was sentenced to 10 years in prison

(Baonghean) -On the afternoon of October 25, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the murder and robbery case against defendant Mong The Xuong (born in 1996, residing in Xieng Lip village, Yen Na commune, Tuong Duong district, Nghe An). At the time of the crime, Mong The Xuong was a 9th grade student.

The investigation results of Nghe An province police determined as follows: On the afternoon of May 23, 2011, Xuong invited Lo Anh Nhu (born 2004, living in the same village) to go into the forest to pick du da fruit to eat. After Xuong picked it, Nhu asked but was refused.

Xuong took a bunch of mulberry fruits to the stream to drink water, and Nhu followed him to ask for water. Not only did Mong The Xuong not give it to her, he also pushed Nhu into the stream and knocked her unconscious, then took off her earrings and put them in his pocket. Seeing Nhu moving, afraid that she would tell the adults, Xuong bent down to the stream and picked up a rock to hit Nhu on the back of the head.

Still hearing Nhu's soft cry, Xuong lifted Nhu's head and hit it twice on the rock. Xuong went home, used scissors to cut the two earrings into small pieces, wrapped them in paper and hid them in a crevice of the cupboard.

When Nhu did not return home, her family rushed to look for her and found her unconscious in a stream. Although she was taken to the emergency room, Nhu died from a traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, and intracranial bleeding. Mong The Xuong was arrested by the investigation agency shortly after.

At the trial, Mong The Xuong clearly recounted his crime and expressed remorse for his actions. Xuong said that he was very addicted to video games, so when he saw Nhu fall, he had the idea of ​​stealing her gold earrings to sell for money to play games.

Considering that the defendant is an ethnic minority with limited legal awareness, and at the time of the crime, Mong The Xuong was only 14 years, 7 months and 19 days old, the panel sentenced Xuong to 8 years in prison for murder and 2 years in prison for robbery. The total sentence is 10 years in prison. In addition, the defendant's family must compensate the victim's family more than 60 million VND.
