RFA reported that up to now, scientists believed that the H6N1 bird flu virus was only transmitted in poultry such as chickens and ducks, but now they have discovered this virus in the clinical sample of a Taiwanese (China) woman.

This discovery warns scientists to study bird flu viruses more carefully to avoid a pandemic caused by different types of flu.

It is worrying that scientists are not alerted to the dangers of new strains of viruses until people are infected, said Marion Koopman, a virologist at the Netherlands Institute for Public Health.

Meanwhile, Cambodian health officials on November 14 admitted that a 29-year-old man was believed to have died of bird flu in early November, raising the death toll from the disease in Cambodia to 26.
