The idea of compiling the book was formed 1 year ago by scientists from the Center for Vietnam and ASEAN Studies. Dr. Kobelev EV, a history doctor, is the director and 24 leading Russian authors on Vietnam.
The book not only reflects the latest documents, but each topic is also summarized and supplemented with the latest research on achievements and current issues in Vietnam. The book also outlines the historical process of Vietnam, especially the turning points in modern history.
The remarkable point is that the book analyzes the current situation and foreign policy of Vietnam. The book also points out the great achievements in the multilateral and open foreign policy that have allowed Vietnam to establish normal, mutually beneficial relations with all the world's major powers, first of all the US and China, as well as with major economies and major political-economic centers such as ASEAN, the European Union (EU), and especially by 2015 with the Eurasian Economic Union.
Evaluating this truly scientific work, which was printed for the first time in 500 copies, Doctor of Economics Mazyrin V., Director of the Center for Vietnam and ASEAN Studies, said that the book is intended for a wide readership, specifically for the business community. The book has a large chapter on the Vietnamese economy. Russian businessmen need information and expert assessments of the economic situation and foreign trade relations of Vietnam.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Hung, one of the authors, said: "In 1969, there was also a reference book about Vietnam. However, you know, in the past half century, there have been many changes and fluctuations. Vietnam has achieved many achievements and the relationship between Vietnam and Russia has reached new heights, so a scientific research work is required.
"The sources of information (books) include official documents and papers; research works in Russian; research works in foreign languages including English and French; in addition, there are sources from official websites of Russia and Vietnam and websites, internet sources, and official newspapers on the internet. About 300 such sources. Very elaborate. Many tables and figures are quoted from very meticulous sources," Dr. Nguyen Quoc Hung added.
The book helps orient relevant organizations in the Russian Federation, acts as a scientific basis, and at the same time helps the business community and satisfies readers interested in contemporary Vietnam.
The book "Vietnam Today" was published on the occasion of Vietnam celebrating the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2015).
