The Fair Play 2017 award ceremony left a strong impression on Vietnamese football officials as it received sentiments and messages from all walks of life for an increasingly clean and beautiful common home.

Vietnamese football often has unfortunate incidents involving referees, so they are very shy when they are the subject of public discussion. Moreover, the "king of the field" is often hurt by many people with biased views, even though not everyone makes mistakes. That is why, in the announcement of the 2017 Fair Play Award by the newspaperHo Chi Minh City Law, both the organizing committee and the managers and operators of Vietnamese football are very happy to receive many comments from the referee community.

Former referee Pham Lieu raised his hand to speak with a strong voice: "My thoughts are probably very similar to those of the football brothers sitting here: when the organizers of the Fair Play tournament set out the noble goal of football, with clean players, then the referees must also be clean.

In my opinion, the most important thing for referees is good ethics, impartiality, and fair play. Once the referee's thinking is clear, the way to control the match will be smooth. Of course, the "king of the field" when assigned to work in national tournaments must have met the professional requirements."

The audience listened attentively to the sharing of the experienced referee Pham Lieu, although he modestly admitted that he had not experienced it in a professional environment: “A referee on the field is no different from a judge, requiring their handling of situations to be fair, both reasonable and logical. We cannot accept a judge who is weak in the law and whose ideology is easily swayed, leading to bias, one-sidedness and deviation.

Among many solutions to improve the quality of football, I think there needs to be synchronization. My own experience shows that referees play a very important role in bringing a match to a safe finish. Therefore, the nature of a referee, in addition to good professional qualifications, needs to have a good mindset and a fair play style.

After the accurate analysis of former referee Pham Lieu, the whole hall resounded with applause. Former golden whistle Duong Manh Hung kept regretting that time passed so quickly that he had not had time to give his opinion. Mr. Hung promised to speak out his own concerns about referees to contribute to making Vietnam's football field increasingly clean: "Personally, I only have one small suggestion: If you want referees to play more fairly, and not have distorted whistles that cause suffering for clubs, then those who train and assign referees also need to play more fairly. If there is no injustice above, how can there be chaos below!"

Teaching players from a young age

VPF President Vo Quoc Thang confided that the core in guiding players to the spirit of fair play is largely determined by the training and education of adults from the first days they step into football. He cited the current U-22 Vietnam players often entering the field with a dedicated playing style and a cultured attitude that many people admire. The VPF President did not forget to reiterate the fair play connection of these young players when they twice won the newspaper's noble football award.Ho Chi Minh City Lawa few years ago and always maintained a fair play image throughout the U-19 team to the U-22 Vietnam team.
