Purebred rice variety Thien Uu 8 gives a real yield of nearly 63 quintals/ha

(Baonghean.vn) - On August 22, Yen Thanh district coordinated with the Central Seed Company to evaluate the results of a large-scale field model of purebred rice variety Thien Uu 8 in the 2014 summer-autumn crop in Hau Thanh commune (Yen Thanh).

Delegates visited the model of the pure rice field Thien Uu 8.

With a scale of 70 hectares and 645 participating households, the model was implemented in Hau Thanh commune from May to August 2014. During that time, the weather was unusual, with widespread hot and dry weather, but from mid-July, there was rain at the rice flowering stage, causing the rice grains to be squished and affecting productivity; leaf rollers and stripe spot disease were widespread... However, the purebred rice variety Thien Uu 8 still grew and developed well, with hard stems, large panicles, many grains and a high percentage of firm grains. Compared to the control variety KD18, this rice variety has a lower level of pest and disease infection, better lodging resistance; especially the actual yield reached 62.8 quintals/ha, 12.4 quintals/ha higher than the control variety, after deducting costs, giving a higher efficiency than the control variety by over 13 million VND/ha.

From those advantages, plus the characteristic of short growing period (98-100 days in the summer-autumn crop), suitable for the local production structure, Yen Thanh District Agricultural Extension Station has proposed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to include Thien Uu 8 rice variety in the province's rice variety structure to expand the production area in both the winter-spring and summer-autumn crops.
