Like most households in Thanh Giang commune, Thanh Chuong district, who mainly live on farming, Nguyen Thi Thuy's family (born in 1994) is no exception. As the second child in a family of 4 siblings, Thuy decided to drop out of school early. With the dream of escaping the bamboo fence of the village, Thuy packed her bags and went to the city to do many different jobs. Born early and having a good appearance, Thuy also got married early with the desire to settle down. At the age of 18, Thuy became the mother of a chubby child.

The pressure of life combined with her inexperience and youth, the marriage between Thuy and her husband who is 6 years older than her is not warm. Because of irreconcilable conflicts, Thuy decided to rent a room in Vinh City to live and work. Thanks to her pretty appearance and a bit of talent, Thuy apprenticed at a centerbeauty salonfamous in Vinh city. This beauty center is also where Thuy worked for several years.

Although the income from this job was not abundant, it still helped Thuy cover her living expenses and raise her young child. However, Thuy's life of going to work in the morning and returning to her rented room in the afternoon was disrupted by the appearance of a man from the same hometown. With the experienced appearance and willingness to spend money of Dau Anh Tuan (born in 1967), Thuy was moved even though they had a 27-year age gap. And even though she was legally bound to her husband, Thuy still rushed into an illicit love affair with a man old enough to be her father.

The two often met at motels. On the afternoon of July 30, 2020, Thuy met Tuan at a motel in Nam Dan district. At this meeting, Tuan suddenly gave Thuy some packages of drugs and told her to take them to Nam Cam Industrial Park. When they got there, someone would come to receive them. Thuy set a condition that Tuan had to deduct the debt of 50 million VND. Thuy's request was agreed by her lover. Immediately after that, Thuy took the drugs and took a taxi to Nam Cam Industrial Park (in Nghi Xa commune, Nghi Loc district). In the evening of the same day, while Thuy was waiting for customers to receive the drugs, the police came and arrested her and the evidence. The investigation agency determined that Nguyen Thi Thuy must bear criminal responsibility for the crime of illegally transporting nearly 2kg of drugs.

Bitter tears in court

While Thuy was arrested and brought to trial, Dau Anh Tuan had already fled. According to the investigation agency, based on Thuy's testimony, the police issued an emergency detention order for Dau Anh Tuan. However, Tuan was not present in the area, so the authorities did not know where he was, so there was no basis to handle the case.

Recently, Thuy appeared in court to receive her sentence for her crimes. The female defendant cried throughout the trial, so the panel of judges encouraged her to stay calm, confess honestly, and receive leniency from the law.

However, at first, Thuy was evasive, saying that she did not know that the package contained drugs. The defendant said that she only knew that it was contraband. "What did the defendant think when she only transported less than 30 km but received 50 million VND?", Thuy remained silent when asked by the panel of judges. After being given the opportunity to testify again, Thuy admitted that she knew that the packages weredrug, but due to the pressure of a 50 million debt, the defendant accepted to transport for Tuan - his lover.

When mentioning the man who put her in trouble, Thuy burst into tears, saying she did not know where that person was. The female defendant cried, recounting her difficult family situation, her husband's parents had passed away, asking for a lighter sentence. Thuy cried even louder when mentioning her 8-year-old child. She said she felt guilty towards her child for not fulfilling her responsibilities as a mother. As the court deliberated, Thuy sat down on the table and cried. The defendant's biological mother could only sit and watch her daughter from behind. Like many other mothers, she only wanted her daughter to settle down and have a peaceful, fulfilling life with her small family. But then, that daughter participated in drug trafficking because of an extramarital affair, which made her even sadder.

The panel of judges determined that the defendant Thuy's actions were dangerous to society. The defendant transported a large amount of drugs and therefore needed to be severely punished. However, the fact that the defendant committed the crime for the first time, had a good personal history, and was only a link or a lackey of another person in the case were mitigating circumstances that needed to be considered. Considering the case as a whole, the panel of judges sentenced Nguyen Thi Thuy to life in prison for "Illegal transportation of narcotics".

The court ended, the country woman dared to approach her daughter. She hugged her erring child and encouraged her in tears. In her mother’s arms, Thuy sobbed, then asked her mother to take care of her little child./.
