(Baonghean.vn) - On June 11, 2014, in Khammouane province, Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Military Region 4 Command with Division 1, Division 4 and the Military Commands of Lao provinces sharing borders with Military Region 4 held a joint conference to evaluate the results of cooperation in 2013 - 2014 and deploy the cooperation plan for 2014 - 2015.
On the side of the Lao Ministry of National Defense, Major General Chan Thong Xon Ta At, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People's Army attended and directed the conference. Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of Military Region 4, and Colonel Pa Sit Thieng Tham, Division Commander of Division 4 co-chaired the conference.

At the conference, the two sides highly appreciated the cooperation between Lao units and localities with Military Region 4 in the past time, which correctly reflected the viewpoints and foreign policies set forth by the two Parties, two States and two Ministries of National Defense. Regarding cooperation in the fields of politics, military, and technical logistics, in 2013, the Military Region 4 Command directed the units of the Military Region to proactively and actively assist a number of Lao localities in ensuring border security, building political bases, training, educating and fostering cadres, investing in production and business, implementing well a number of projects, models, and cooperation in delegation exchanges. Lao units and localities that have established sister-group relations with Military Region 4 have actively assisted the units of Military Region 4 in searching for, collecting and repatriating the remains of 575 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and military experts who died in Laos.
Notably, Military Region 4 has coordinated to organize over 100 bilateral patrols; trained 150 Lao military and political officers at the squad level; organized mine clearance, liberated nearly 40 hectares of land to serve the plan to restore and thicken the national border marker system; helped Lao military units purchase interior equipment, build facilities for training, medical examination and treatment, and provide free medicine to over 1,300 people; supported food, foodstuffs, daily necessities, and study materials for people and students in the hamlet clusters worth over 7.5 billion VND, contributing to maintaining political stability and social order and safety on the Vietnam - Laos border.
At the conference, Major General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of Military Region 4 and Colonel Pa Sit Thieng Tham, Commander of Division 4 signed the minutes of the 2014 joint conference between the Command of Military Region 4 with Division 4, Division 1 and the Military Commands of the provinces sharing the border with Military Region 4, agreeing to cooperate and coordinate to well implement the contents on the basis of the cooperation policies and plans that the two sides have determined, contributing to maintaining the situation, creating conditions for stability, building and developing the economy in the border area of the two brotherly countries of Vietnam and Laos.
