(Baonghean) - Those were the words of Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Minh when he confided the story of how he saved a little girl's life when life and death were at a hair's breadth.

On a rainy day after the circulation of storm No. 10, at about 10 p.m., while pumping water to the tank on the rooftop, he heard a dog barking, so he opened the door and went outside. The street was deserted, but it seemed like someone was lying motionless on the side of Nguyen Sy Sach Street. At that moment, two young men passed by and stopped to look, but then drove away. Thinking something bad had happened, he went out to see and was shocked to see a girl about 19 or 20 years old lying motionless, her face covered in blood, listening for her weak breathing, probably having just been in a traffic accident. He quickly took the girl to the emergency room. At the hospital, he claimed to be a relative of the victim, asked the doctor to give him first aid, then searched for her belongings and contacted the girl's mother, who lived in Nghi My, Nghi Loc. The girl's life was in critical condition at that time, due to a traffic accident that resulted in multiple injuries and a traumatic brain injury. If he left everything to the doctor, while there were still many patients, he would not be at ease, so he waited for the girl's family to arrive before leaving.

Unable to sleep at home, he rushed to the hospital early in the morning to check on the girl's health. She was very weak, the doctor decided to transfer her to another hospital, but because the family did not have enough money, they had to rely on the doctors at the Provincial General Hospital. Faced with the difficult circumstances of the girl's family, he withdrew all the money in his wallet and gave it to the family to add to her medical expenses. After more than a month of treatment, Ngo Thi Hue (the girl's name, born in 1995, just graduated from Nghi Loc 2 High School) was completely healthy. The bicycle left at Minh's house the night of the accident was also repaired by his uncle.

When mentioning Uncle Minh's deep gratitude, Hue was moved: "To have money to study for the university entrance exam, I worked part-time at a restaurant. That day, on the way from work to my rented room, because it was raining heavily, I tried to cycle as fast as possible, but when I got to Nguyen Sy Sach street, I had an accident. When I woke up, I heard from my family that if it weren't for Uncle Minh, I probably wouldn't have lived to this day because if I didn't die from the wound, I would have died from drowning. Uncle took care of me like he would his own children, visited me every few days and sometimes even supported me with money for medicine. Honestly, my family doesn't know how to repay this deep gratitude.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Minh - Head of the Air Defense Department - Provincial Military Command is a famous person with a kind heart. Once, when he saw someone drop money, many people rushed to him, one picked up a 500,000 VND bill, another picked up 2 or 3 bills, he stopped his car and said: "If it's not your money, why would you take it?" Perhaps because of his soldier uniform and the way he persuaded, many people did not hesitate to hand over the money they picked up to him. Because he did not know who dropped it, he handed it over to the ward police with the amount of 4 million VND.

Referring to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Minh, Head of the Propaganda Department (Provincial Military Command) Nguyen Trong Loc said: “Minh’s example of saving people is truly worthy of being emulated. If we all have a compassionate heart amidst the hustle and bustle of life today, then this life will surely have a lot of happiness!”
