Contribute to preserving and promoting the languages and writings of ethnic groups
Implementing Decision 53/CP of the Government and the policy of the Ministry of Education and Training on preserving and promoting the languages and writings of ethnic minorities, starting from the 2009-2010 school year, Nghe An has implemented a program to teach and learn Mong language for primary school students.

Currently, 206/14,393 primary school teachers in the province have been trained to teach ethnic languages according to the program of the Ministry of Education and Training. The curriculum ensures two periods per week of students' choice. Textbooks for teachers and students are fully provided. Teachers participating in teaching have their own regime and policies of treatment and are mainly Mong teachers or teachers who have been living in remote areas for a long time.
Mr. Nguyen Phung Dat - Head of the Department of Ethnic Minorities - Department of Education and Training said: For students who are ethnic minorities, it is very difficult to achieve the goal of forming and developing skills in using Vietnamese in communication, studying and practicing basic thinking operations in Vietnamese. Therefore, in parallel with teaching the common language (considered as a second language), integrating teaching and learning the mother tongue for them is very necessary, both as a means of transferring knowledge, supporting them to study other subjects well in Vietnamese and contributing to preserving and promoting the spoken and written languages of ethnic minorities.
The ethnic language teaching and learning program has been implemented and maintained for many years in many provinces and cities across the country, contributing to training a large number of ethnic minority students who can use both Vietnamese and their mother tongue relatively fluently. In our province, the Mong language teaching and learning program for ethnic minority students has just been implemented starting from this school year, so in the implementation process, there are still some difficulties due to: the teaching and learning time is too short (2 periods/1 week) so the quality is not high, the teaching equipment is minimal, the system of tool books and additional reading books in the Mong language is still lacking, the teaching staff has only been trained and fostered but has not gone through the ethnic language teaching training program in pedagogical schools, so their qualifications and capacity are still limited.
On the other hand, the teaching of ethnic languages has not been officially regulated in the general education program at all levels. Therefore, localities are confused when developing teaching plans, conducting assessment of teaching and learning quality... According to Mr. Nguyen Phung Dat, the effective implementation of the Mong language teaching and learning program will be a premise for developing teaching and learning for students of other ethnic minorities in the province, contributing positively to the work of preserving and promoting the spoken and written languages of ethnic minorities.
