After hours of torrential rain, floods flooded the Vere River – a river that flows through Tbilisi on the evening of June 13 and the morning of June 14. Many houses and roads were severely flooded. Rustavi 2 TV channel reported that the flood killed at least 9 people and many others were missing. However, the most dangerous thing was that after flooding the city zoo, the flood "helped" the wild animals there to escape.
On social media, many people shared pictures of a lion, a crocodile, a bear and a hippopotamus appearing on the streets of Tbilisi. Many people were very confused by the above information. Later, the mayor's office announced that some of the animals that escaped from the zoo were captured by the police, while others were killed.
The floods also forced dozens of households to evacuate and thousands of people were left without clean water and electricity. Georgia is a country of about 1.2 million people located at the junction of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Georgia was formerly part of the Soviet Union until it broke away in 1991.
