The brave sacrifice of Nguyen Van Nam was included in the Literature exam.
The event of Nguyen Van Nam - a male student of class 12T7, Do Luong I High School (Nghe An) who sacrificed his life while bravely saving 5 children from drowning in the Lam River on the afternoon of April 30 was included in the high school graduation exam in Literature this year, which surprised and moved many candidates.
In the Literature exam for the 2013 high school graduation exam this morning, question 2 (3 points) in the General section for all candidates required: "Write a short essay (about 400 words) expressing your thoughts on the brave act of saving 5 children from the raging water by student Nguyen Van Nam in Nghe An." Many candidates and parents were moved by this exam question. Sharing with us over the phone, Mr. Nguyen Van Dieu, father of young hero Nguyen Van Nam, choked up: “I was very surprised and moved when I heard that the social essay question in this year's high school graduation exam mentioned my son's brave act of saving people. His passing has left his family with great pain and loss. Especially these days, when his peers are busy with exams, if Nam were still alive, he would also be busy with exams. But I believe that his passing is not meaningless. There will be many students and young people who will learn from him and follow his example to do beautiful, meaningful and humane actions for everyone.”

Provincial leaders awarded the "Brave Youth" Medal to Nguyen Van Nam
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Huong, Principal of Do Luong I High School - the school where Nam studied, said that she was very surprised by this exam question and was very proud of Nam. "The exam question was based on a current event reported by the press, which happened to a student of the school, so I personally feel very proud. Nam is a good student, a good student, his sacrifice has greatly moved the school, his family, his friends and his teachers and is an example of self-sacrifice that deserves respect and praise. The decision of the Ministry of Education and Training to make this event an essay exam for Literature is very meaningful, with high humanistic value to promote the spirit of living beautifully, love and sacrifice for others for today's youth", Ms. Huong said.
Candidates were moved by the exam question about the brave actions of Nguyen Van Nam.
It is known that Nam's classmates and many students in the school called her to share their feelings when taking the Literature exam this year. Nguyen Trong Khanh - a candidate from Nguyen Truong To High School (Vinh City) said: "The exam has 3 questions, including a social essay question asking about the brave act of sacrificing to save 5 children from drowning by Nguyen Van Nam - a student from Do Luong I High School. This is a touching story that the school and teachers have talked about a lot in the past time. Nam's example is a beautiful action that each of us needs to learn and follow."
As for many parents, when holding the exam papers given by their children, they were moved to tears. Ms. Trinh Thi Thuan, a teacher at Thanh Duc Primary School (Thanh Chuong) - parent of candidate Nguyen Khanh Linh (student of grade 12C, Thanh Chuong I High School) shared: "The exam papers are so good. Not stereotyped or empty in books. Whether the essay is good or not, getting a high score depends on the life experience, on the children's genuine feelings for the brave sacrifice of their friends...".
Hopefully, after the launching ceremony of "Learning and following the brave actions of union member Nguyen Van Nam", the inclusion of the content about the example of Nguyen Van Nam bravely sacrificing to save the lives of 5 children in the raging water in the exam will create educational power, spreading propaganda widely to all generations of the same age in particular and the young generation of Vietnam in general...
