This is Serena Williams' 5th WTA Finals title in her career. She previously won in 2001, 2009, 2012 and 2013.
Serena has equaled German legend Steffi Graf's record of 5 titles, but is still 3 titles behind legend Martina Navratilova.
For Halep, the defeat was a huge disappointment as she was only one match away from the title, especially when she was in such impressive form. Before the final, the Romanian had won all four matches and lost only one set.
Sharing in the moment of coronation, Serena was emotional: "I feel extremely happy to once again become the winner."
"Halep caused me a lot of trouble in the first set. Her shots were very tricky and it was very difficult to respond accurately. However, I calmly overcame them to win."
In the final, Serena lost her break early, giving Halep a chance to take a 2-1 lead in the third game. However, the American player quickly regained the break to level the score at 2-2.
After leveling the score, Serena rose strongly and dominated by winning 2 more break points before closing set 1 with a score of 6-2.
In set 2, the world number 1 tennis player completely controlled the game and quickly ended with an absolute victory of 6-0, thereby becoming the champion for the 5th time.
In the doubles event, the Cara Black/Sania Mirza pair won the championship after an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Su-Wei Hsieh/Shuai Peng pair./.
