Netherlands cancels 'top' rock concert due to terror threat

On the evening of August 23, police in the Dutch city of Rotterdam had to cancel a rock concert by the American band Allah-Las at the last minute due to information about a threat to carry out a terrorist attack.

On its Twitter page, the Maassilo concert hall announced that the show could not take place as scheduled on the evening of August 23 due to a terrorist threat.

Police officers wearing bulletproof vests approached the 1,000-capacity concert hall. The entire building was sealed off and the audience was immediately evacuated. The city's counter-terrorism unit was also on the scene to control the situation.

The show was cancelled following a tip-off from Spanish police.

Speaking at a press conference, Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb said a bus with Spanish license plates and gas cylinders was found near the concert hall, but it was not immediately clear whether the terrorist threat and the bus were related. Police have detained the bus driver for questioning.
