Previously, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Dutch police were said to have searched Mr. Borodin's apartment and beaten him before taking the diplomat to the police station for questioning regarding allegations of child abuse.

"If the investigation shows that the case was handled in a way that violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the Netherlands will apologize to Russia," spokesman Van Son said.

On October 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke out and asked the Netherlands to apologize for the assault and interrogation of Russian Embassy Counselor Dmitry Borodin in the Netherlands by the country's police.

In an interview with Russian news agency RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Indonesia, President Putin affirmed that the incident was a serious violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, Russia is waiting for an apology and explanation from the Netherlands, and requested that violators be dealt with.

According to information from Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich, Dutch police broke into the apartment of Counselor Dmitry Borodin last weekend, severely injuring the diplomat on fabricated charges of child abuse; Borodin was handcuffed and taken to the police station for interrogation all night, after which he was released without receiving any explanation or apology from the Dutch authorities.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also sent an official note to the Netherlands to protest the above action./.
