Hanoi invests 41 billion VND to develop high-quality flowers and ornamental plants
Hanoi Agricultural Extension Center said that in order to convert the ineffective vegetable production model to growing high-quality flowers and ornamental plants, Hanoi invested in the Flower and Ornamental Plant Development Project in 2014 with a total budget of 41 billion VND.
Accordingly, the Hanoi Agricultural Extension Center has supported models and farms for mass flower production and flowers of high economic value such as the high-quality lily production model; the high-quality orchid production model; the high-economic rose production model...
In particular, the Center is interested in building a model for safe use of pesticides on roses and chrysanthemums.
Mr. Nguyen Van Suot's family in Yen Noi village, Lien Mac commune, Tu Liem district, is one of the households selected to participate in the pilot model of growing high-quality lilies (sa lily, sorbon lily) with an area of 1,000m2.
Mr. Suot said that this is a flower of temperate origin, relatively difficult to grow because the climate and planting season have a great influence on the growth, budding and blooming process. Although this type of flower brings high income, the investment capital is 3-4 times higher than other types of flowers.
Thanks to the application of scientific and technical advances in care, Mr. Suot's lily growing model is less susceptible to pests and diseases, and grows and develops well. The stems are strong, the buds are large, and each plant produces 5-6 flowers.
Mr. Suot’s family has about 2,800 square meters of cultivated land and specializes in growing chrysanthemums and lilies. Each year, the average income for his family members is more than 50 million VND.
Hanoi currently supplies 85% of flowers and ornamental plants to serve consumers in the capital, the remaining 10-12% is consumed in other provinces and cities. In addition, Hanoi also exports 3-5% of roses, chrysanthemums, and gladiolus to China and Cambodia.
In particular, on the occasion of Lunar New Year, peach blossoms (peach branches and bonsai peach trees) and kumquat trees from Hanoi are supplied to localities, initially introduced in countries with many Vietnamese people living such as Russia, Germany, America...
In addition to supporting the development of high-quality ornamental flower growing models, the Hanoi Agricultural Extension Center is interested in training, coaching, propaganda and taking people to visit good business models to learn from experience.
This year, the Center organized 2 intensive training courses for grassroots technicians; 1 training course for members of the Hanoi City Ornamental Plants Association; 24/82 short-term training courses (large-scale) on flower and ornamental plant production techniques for farmers and farm owners.
The Center is currently developing documents for training and propaganda; submitting a request to organize 2 delegations to visit and learn from domestic experiences./.
