Hanoi wants to 'revive' To Lich River with a trillion-dollar project
The Yen Xa wastewater treatment plant project will collect and treat domestic wastewater over an area of more than 4,800 hectares, from 7 districts and the To Lich, Lu and Nhue rivers.
On October 7, the Hanoi People's Committee started construction of the Yen Xa wastewater treatment plant (Thinh Liet commune, Thanh Tri district), with a total investment of VND16,200 billion.
The project will treat domestic wastewater on an area of more than 4,800 hectares from 7 districts: Ba Dinh, Tu Liem, Dong Da, Thanh Xuan, Hoang Mai, Ha Dong, Thanh Tri and 2 rivers in the city.
According to Mr. Le Van Duc, Director of Hanoi Department of Construction, this is the first time the capital has built a centralized wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 270,000 m3/day and night and a collection system, sewer system, and riverside sewer system about 52 km long.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee, said that the Yen Xa wastewater treatment system project is a key project, of great significance in improving the environment, to "revive" the To Lich, Lu, Set and part of Nhue rivers.
Yen Xa wastewater treatment plant is expected to be completed in 2019.
