Hanoi Plant Protection Department said that in Hanoi market, bananas and papayas were sprayed with chemicals to ripen them, but the name of the chemicals used has not yet been found.
The representative of the Plant Protection Department admitted: “That is true. Fruits, especially bananas and papayas, are very common fruits, consumed by many people and need attention.
We have also discovered a few cases of using chemicals to spray bananas and papayas to make them ripen beautifully, but these are unknown chemicals, and our lab has not yet discovered what they are. Therefore, we advise consumers to be wary of bananas and papayas that are ripe and have a bright, beautiful color.

Hanoi is currently piloting the creation of safe banana and papaya brands in two areas, using the traditional method of putting them in jars and then burning incense to ripen them. These fruits will be sealed with a designed band.
Besides bananas, Hanoi is also making a safe Hanoi tea brand, which is Huy Quy tea in Bac Son.
Currently, agricultural production in Hanoi only meets about 60%, of which only about 30% are safe vegetables.
The whole city has 58 stores and points of sale of safe vegetables that have been granted certificates of eligibility for business, with an average consumption of 50-120kg/store/day. In addition, there are 35 supermarkets that are selling safe vegetables, with an average consumption of 80-200kg/supermarket/day.
