Hanoi develops new high-yield soybean variety DT84
Hanoi is the locality with the largest soybean production area in the North, but it can only meet more than 10% of the soybean demand for the capital market.
To create the best conditions for the formation of concentrated soybean production areas in the direction of commodities, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has had many solutions to promote the production, development and consumption of soybean varieties, and at the same time requires localities to soon complete the work of land consolidation and plot exchange, bringing mechanization into production, helping farmers save labor costs and increase income.
In 2015, the Hanoi Crop Development Center implemented a soybean production model for the Summer-Autumn crop with an area of 210 hectares of DT84 variety, at 5 agricultural cooperatives of Hat Mon, Van Nam, Thuan Noi (Tam Huan commune) Phuc Tho district, and Trung Chau 1 and Trung Chau 2 agricultural cooperatives (Trung Chau commune, Dan Phuong district).
In order to ensure seed quality, the Center's technical staff has focused on instructing farmers to perform well the technical steps of eliminating mixed plants of different types and varieties in the field and applying new scientific and technical advances in production, limiting the use of pesticides and fertilizers, reducing costs, increasing production efficiency, and yielding over 2.35 tons/ha (in some places the yield is from 2.5-2.6 tons/ha), for an output of 490-495 tons.
Ms. Tran Thi Loan in Van Nam commune (Phuc Tho district) said that growing soybeans is both highly profitable and does not require much care. This crop was supported by the Hanoi Crop Development Center with DT84 soybean varieties. Her family planted more than 4 sao, and is expected to harvest more than 300 kg. With a selling price of 18,000-20,000 VND/kg of soybean seeds, the family has an income of about 5-6 million VND/crop, after deducting expenses, the profit is 4 million VND/crop.
According to agricultural experts, DT84 soybean variety has better resistance to pests and diseases than other soybean varieties, and a short growth and development period.
Currently, DT84 is the best soybean variety in terms of both quality and productivity. This variety can be deployed on a large scale, gradually covering the soybean growing area of suburban districts of Hanoi, especially meeting the soybean demand of the domestic market.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoa, Head of the Cultivation Department (Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that in the coming time, the Hanoi Plant Development Center will increase the application of scientific and technical advances, contributing to increasing productivity, ensuring the quality of certified seeds, and performing well the work of harvesting and post-harvest preservation.
From now until the end of the season, the Center will also closely coordinate with the facilities to prepare well for seed harvesting, coordinate with businesses to purchase and supply soybean seeds to soybean growing areas in Hanoi./.
