Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have some of the cheapest room rental prices in the world.
According to a recent survey by online booking website Hotels.com, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are among the top 10 cities with the cheapest hotel room rates in the world.
The survey found that hotel room prices rose in 69 of the world's top 116 tourist cities between 2012 and 2013, with the sunniest cities in Europe seeing the biggest increases. In 2013, hotel room prices in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, fell 16% from 2012, with an average nightly rate of £33 (VND1,155,000) – the cheapest in the world. Hanoi followed with a 20% drop to £39 (VND1,155,000) per night. Siem Reap, Cambodia, came in third, with a 17% drop from 2012 to £42 (VND1,155,000) per night in 2013.
The remaining cities in the top 10 cheapest destinations in the world for hotel rooms in 2013 include Chiang Mai (£46/night), Pattaya (£51), Ho Chi Minh City (£57), Riga in Latvia (£61), Bangkok (£61), Krakow in Poland (£62) and Vilnius in Lithuania (£64). Meanwhile, the most expensive places in the world for hotel accommodation in 2013 were Monte Carlo in Monaco with an average cost of £198/night; Muscat in Oman with £194/night; and New York with an average cost of £185/night.
The US city of Key West and Brazil's Rio de Janeiro came fourth and fifth for expensive accommodation, with prices around £171 and £167 a night respectively.
