Hanoi handles the impact of storm No. 5, ready for events celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day September 2
After the impact of storm No. 5, Hanoi mobilized all forces to prevent flooding, ensuring readiness for events celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day September 2.
Heavy rain right at the time of the parade rehearsal
Storm No. 5 caused prolonged heavy rain, causing flooding in many areas of Hanoi.
On the morning of August 27, the day of the parade rehearsal, some inner-city streets were still partially flooded, affecting traffic.
Faced with that situation, Hanoi Drainage Company Limited has deployed many emergency plans to ensure clear roads for this important event.

Solution to handle right from the beginning of the rainy season
As soon as storm No. 5 was forecast, the city proactively lowered the water level on the river system and regulating lakes to the lowest level.
Pumping stations are maintained and repaired for continuous operation. Mobile equipment is also deployed at locations where local flooding frequently occurs.
During this rainy season, the company mobilized 100% of its human resources and equipment. Thanks to that, many flooded areas were quickly resolved, limiting the impact on people's lives.
According to design, the drainage system of To Lich river basin can withstand 310 mm/2 days.
However, in Hai Ba Trung district alone, the rainfall measured after 2 days reached 594 mm, nearly double the capacity. However, by 2 pm on August 26, the city had basically handled the flooded areas.

Some areas are still partially flooded due to the water level of the Nhue River not draining quickly enough. On the left side of the Nhue River is Vo Chi Cong Street, on the right side of the Nhue River is Nguyen Xien and Thang Long Avenue. The Long Bien area is also flooded due to the incomplete drainage system.
On the contrary, the old inner-city streets in Ba Dinh district, where the parade passed through, have been completely cleared and are no longer flooded.
Comprehensive on-call plan until September 2
Hanoi authorities have developed a specific plan to be ready to respond.
Regarding personnel, 100% of officers and employees are mobilized to be on duty continuously until September 2.
Regarding the facilities, all equipment is regularly checked to ensure good operation in all situations.
In addition, the city closely coordinates with the Department of Agriculture, City Police and Voice of Vietnam to remotely divert traffic at areas at risk of flooding.
People are advised to limit going through flooded areas.
The drainage company will isolate the area for treatment and notify promptly when the road is reopened.
HSDC Maps application regularly updates flood status in real time for people to look up before moving.
The government hopes that people will join hands with the city by taking practical actions. Do not litter on the streets or let garbage flow down the drains, causing blockages. Businesses need to cover the drains to avoid stagnation during heavy rains.
These small actions play an important role in helping Hanoi welcome the festive season safely and completely, in the true spirit of civilization and elegance of the Capital.
