Two 'monsters' lost everything after selling two children to China
(Baonghean.vn) - Selling 2 children to China for 240 million VND, on the way back to Vietnam, Thanh had all the money confiscated by Chinese police and 5 years later had to appear in court for the crime of "Buying and selling children".
At the end of October, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendants Ngan Thi Dua (born 1988, residing in Nga My commune, Tuong Duong district) and Vi Thi Hoai Thanh (born 1980, residing in Thach Giam commune, Tuong Duong district) for the crime of "Buying and selling children".
Around August 2014, Dua went to visit an acquaintance's house and met and learned that Lo Thi Q. (born in 2001) and Nguyen Thi Thanh Q. (born in 1999), residing in Thach Giam commune, were looking for jobs to earn money. Dua asked the two girls if they wanted to go to China to earn money. When Lo Thi Q. asked what job they wanted, Dua told her that they would work for a company or babysit for someone else, with a monthly salary of 8 to 10 million VND.

Hearing the story, the two girls agreed to go. Then, Dua called Thanh. The two talked to each other, Thanh said "going to China is just to get married, not to do any business". Dua talked to Q. about going to China to get married and would receive 80 million VND, so the girl agreed.
Dua and Thanh then discussed specifically how and when to take the two children to a foreign country. At around 3pm that day, Dua took a bus to Vinh City to hand them over to Thanh. The next morning, Thanh took a bus to take the two children across the border to China. In the foreign country, Thanh took the two children to the house of a man he had known before and asked him to find a buyer. Four days later, this man sold the two children and gave Thanh 80,000 yuan (equivalent to 240 million VND).
On the way back, Thanh was arrested by the Chinese police, who confiscated all the money they had paid for selling the two children. After returning home, Thanh went to Laos to do business. Therefore, when Dua went to demand the 20 million VND as promised, Thanh's mother borrowed money to give Dua 13 million VND.
In 2016, Lo Thi Q. escaped back to Vietnam and filed a complaint with the police on February 21, 2019.
At the trial, the two defendants expressed remorse and regret. Defendant Thanh stated that all the money from human trafficking had been confiscated by the Chinese police, so he did not receive any compensation. The representative of the victim's rights defender who attended the trial asked for a reduced sentence for the defendants.
The panel of judges determined that the defendants’ act of taking children to China to sell for money was a violation of the law. The court sentenced Ngan Thi Dua and Vi Thi Hoai Thanh to 12 years in prison each for “Buying and selling children”. The defendants were ordered to jointly compensate the victim’s family 80 million VND.
