The Philippine Navy will equip at least 3 to 6 diesel-electric submarines in the future.

The above information was revealed by Deputy Commander of the Philippine Navy - Rear Admiral C. Taccad in an interview with PNA news agency.

According to him, the Philippine Navy needs to be equipped with new generation diesel-electric attack submarines to deter any challenges that violate the Philippines' sovereignty at sea and this will be the focus of the country's military modernization process.

The Chang Bogo-class diesel-electric submarine, built in South Korea, is quite suitable for the Philippines' requirements.

However, Rear Admiral Taccad also said that developing a strong enough submarine force requires a lot of time and effort, besides that preparing infrastructure as well as training human resources plays a very important role. Meanwhile, the Philippines lacks all of the above.

According to the Philippine Navy's plan, it will take at least 10 years for the country to develop a submarine force at a relative level, but the navy has quietly started developing this force 3 years ago. Under the name of the submarine force development department of the Philippine fleet.

Rear Admiral Taccad said that the Philippine Navy is fully capable of acquiring and operating its own diesel-electric submarines, and the Philippines needs at least 3 to 6 submarines to ensure maritime security in its waters.
