Baltic Fleet minesweepers from World War II
The engineering team of the minesweeper "PT-273" of the Baltic Fleet destroyed a World War II-era mine, discovered on Tuesday at the mouth of the Kaliningrad Canal in the city of Baltiysk, Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia.

Baltic Fleet spokesman Captain Vladimir Matveev told reporters about this news.
"At this moment, the canal is open for safe navigation, there is no threat," Mr. Matveyev said.
During World War II, 1944-1945, fierce battles took place in the present-day Kaliningrad region (formerly East Prussia). Bombs and mines are still buried underground, and sometimes mines from the sea still drift ashore.
