South Korea develops new drug to treat leukemia
According to a Korean news network, a pharmaceutical company in this country has developed a new drug capable of treating leukemia for the first time in Asia.
The Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) said the government has approved the production and sale of a capsule drug called Shupect, produced by Ilyang Pharmaceutical Company.
Shupect is the 18th drug developed in Korea and is used to treat chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and can be applied to patients who are resistant to Gleevec, the current leukemia drug.

Ilyang Pharmaceutical Company said that thanks to the development of this new drug, Korea can save more than 52.1 million USD/year in costs for paying foreign drug copyrights.
Along with that, the company will increase its competitiveness in the world leukemia treatment drug market worth more than 5 billion USD./.
