“The South Korean government will continue to join hands with the international community to make Pyongyang realize that it has no choice but to accept changes, and that there is no future without giving up nuclear weapons,” Park said at a meeting of the National Unification Advisory Council.

Park said South Korea has been making efforts to avoid tensions and establish peace on the Korean Peninsula, but pointed out that Pyongyang has responded only with nuclear tests and more missile launches. Earlier that day, North Korea also launched intermediate-range ballistic missiles in direct violation of international sanctions.

“The development of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles is a serious provocation that threatens not only peace on the Korean Peninsula but also peace in Northeast Asia and the entire world,” Park said, adding that no international organization would extend a helping hand to Pyongyang if the current situation continued.

The female president said that South Korea needs to come up with consistent policies on the North Korea issue, and stressed that the country will continue to try to bring peace and unity on the peninsula.
