On February 2, the New York Times of the United States reported that the Italian-American car manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV will issue a recall for more than 228,000 Jeep Cherokees to upgrade the software because the airbags of these vehicles can deploy automatically when the vehicle is not in a collision.

The newspaper said the automaker will upgrade the software that controls side airbags installed in seats for 2014-2015 vehicles.

This recall affects more than 168,000 vehicles in the US market.

The decision to issue the recall came after Chrysler engineers investigated reports that the vehicles' airbag systems were deploying on their own.

The decision was announced after US federal safety regulators said on January 31 that Toyota, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Honda would have to recall about 2.1 million older vehicles to fix a defect that could cause the vehicle's airbags to deploy even when there is no collision./.
