According to Chrysler's announcement, for trucks running Cummins diesel engines, fuel rod corrosion can cause overheating, fuel leakage and fire.
Drivers may smell oil if there is a problem with the vehicle. The trucks affected by the recall include 382,000 Ram 2500s, 3,500 Ram 4500s and 5,500 Ram 2500s built between 2010 and 2014.
Meanwhile, about 184,000 SUVs in this recall are at risk of having software problems that could disable the electronic stability control system. Chrysler said it would recall the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango models.
Chrysler said there have been no reports of injuries or fires related to the issues. Owners are expected to be notified by mail about the inspection, upgrade or replacement program in December.
Since the beginning of the year, Chrysler has issued 33 recalls globally and 27 in the US alone, contributing significantly to the 2014 recall storm, which has now surpassed 52 million vehicles, breaking the record for the number of vehicles recalled in 2004./
