(Baonghean) -This morning, July 25, in Hoang Mai town, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An), the ceremony to receive the National Recognition Certificate for Rocket Cave and Railway Cemetery took place.

Attending and speaking at the ceremony were comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong, member of the Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, comrade Nguyen Huu Bang, Chairman of the Board of Directors, General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation, along with leaders of departments, branches and many local people.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong presented the Certificate of National Historical Relic of Rocket Cave and Railway Cemetery to the leaders of Quynh Luu district.

In the early years of fighting against the US imperialists, on April 27, 1965, the Ministry of Transport established Unit C271, Team 27 "three ready" consisting of 150 officers and soldiers and transferred it to the General Department of Railways to protect the vital railway line in the Thanh Hoa-Vinh area. After receiving the Youth Volunteer Force to support the transport sector of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, young people in their twenties full of vitality from the provinces of Ha Nam, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Thua Thien - Hue... went to Hoang Mai to carry out their duties. Unit C271 was divided into many teams, including Team 4 with 36 officers and soldiers (14 men, 22 women) with the task of quarrying stone to build the railway section to Hoang Mai station and promptly overcoming incidents on this route when American bombs were dropped.

Unit C271 in general and Youth Volunteer Group 4 in particular always completed their tasks excellently at the construction site with the spirit of "No regrets about blood and bones until the road is cleared", receiving a letter of praise from Uncle Ho and an emulation flag for the entire army.

At around 9:00 a.m. on April 28, 1966, Team 4 of Unit C271 was transporting rocks and soil to complete the remaining railway section when suddenly an American plane bombed and fired rockets, killing all 33 Youth Volunteers who were taking shelter in the cave. By 2003, all 33 Youth Volunteers who died in the Fire Rocket Cave (also known as Monkey Cave) were recognized by the State as Martyrs and awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Fatherland in memory of the fallen heroes. And today, this very land, once a battlefield, where the 33 Youth Volunteers fell, has been recognized as a national historical relic, becoming a traditional memorial site for future generations.
