(Baonghean.vn) - Thousands of migrants, drenched by the rain, are still stranded in a desolate area between Greece and Macedonia. Meanwhile, Macedonian police continue to close the border, preventing these people from moving north towards the European Union.

Throughout the night, police only allowed small groups of families with children to cross the border on foot to the train station in the Macedonian town of Gevgelija, where most of them took trains to the Serbian border before heading towards European Union member state Hungary.

Those who were unable to cross the border, including many women and children, spent the cold and rainy night in the open.

Police used stun grenades and clashed with migrants trying to escape across the border on August 21, a day after Macedonia declared a state of emergency at its border to stem the influx.
