At the ceremony, Venerable Thich Minh Huong - Head of the Supervisory Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Executive Committee in Nghe An province read the Buddha's Birthday Message from the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to Vietnamese Buddhist monks and nuns at home and abroad. The message affirmed that after his birth more than 2,500 years ago, through the process of practicing, propagating the Dharma and saving lives, the Founder Shakyamuni Buddha left humanity a priceless system of doctrinal thoughts on wisdom, compassion, non-violence, harmony and development. Therefore, in 1999, the United Nations passed a Resolution recognizing Vesak Day as a World Cultural and Religious Festival for Humanity's Peace.
