Fashion company recruits employees who specialize in traveling and 'taking selfies'
Sportswear manufacturer Columbia Sportswear wants to test products in extreme conditions, so it's hiring for a temporary position with a salary of $39,000.
The job will be for nine months, where they will travel and share videos and photos of their travels on platforms like YouTube and Instagram. “They have to be outdoorsy and adventurous,” says Scott Trepanier, Columbia Sportswear’s director of communications.
Of course, that's just one requirement. Applicants also need to have a large social media following. "Having a large social media presence is an advantage for applicants. Because we want our story to be known to many people," Trepanier said.

The airline did not disclose the locations that will be covered on the trip, but two previous employees in the position have traveled to Chile, Uganda and Ecuador.
Extreme sports are very popular and are becoming increasingly popular on social media. It is helping many Instagram account holders become famous quickly. The use of products such as drones and GoPro cameras also plays a big role in this trend.
Columbia Sportswear has found that social media travel stories are playing an increasingly important role in their marketing strategy. “It’s the perfect platform to engage our customers. Our customers are not just passive viewers, so we want them to be active contributors to our campaigns,” Trepanier concludes.
Columbia Sportswear isn’t the first company to hire someone who gets paid to travel and share stories. Earlier this year, streaming video service Netflix hired a Grammaster who gets paid thousands of dollars a week to travel to Europe and the Middle East and take photos.
