Dien Bich Commune mobilized fishing unions and fishing groups, arranged 6 large capacity ships with hundreds of people and Dien Thanh Border Guard Station to participate in the rescue.
The fishermen had to dive down to remove some sand from the ship, then use ropes to pull it up. By the afternoon of the same day, Tran Van Hong's ship was brought back to Lach Quen port (Quynh Luu), while Nguyen Van Tuan's ship was not towed back to Lach Van port until 5am on December 17.
All fishermen on both boats were safe. The boats were towed back, but the machinery and hull were badly damaged, so the boat owner had to invest 30-50 million VND in repairs before they could go out to sea.
