The world's largest automaker announced Friday, August 14, that the recall includes VW Golf, Passat, Jetta, and Tiguan models built between 2010 and 2014.

VW said it has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the airbag problems so far.

The recall comes as the German automaker struggles to overcome a poor performance in the US. VW saw its sales fall 10%, or 367,000 vehicles, compared to the previous year, falling short of its ambitious target of selling 800,000 vehicles in the US in 2018.

VW said it would recall 420,000 vehicles in the US and 41,300 in Canada. VW is also checking to see if the problem affects vehicles delivered to other markets./.
